Monastery of Panagia Molyvdoskepasti

Outside Konitsa, just 17 km., is the Holy Monastery of Panagia Molyvdoskepasti. It was built during Byzantine times where two rivers meet: Aoos and Sarantaporos. The reason why it was called Molyvdoskepasti was that the whole roof of the temple was covered with pencil leaves. During the Turkish occupation, the area's Secret School was housed there. It was bombed during World War II by the Germans.

The miraculous icon of Panagia Brefokratoussa is preserved among the other relics. It is located very close (about 300 meters only) from the Greek-Albanian border.
